Mental health therapy is also known as counseling or psychotherapy. It can include different session formats: individual, couple, family, or group. It can be long-term or short-term. It can focus on the present or the past, or combine the two. Most of all, it is a collaborative process between client and therapist. On the therapist’s part, it requires having met a stringent set of educational and experiential qualifications. Finding the right match -- someone with whom you feel comfortable and have a sense of rapport -- is critical.

On the client’s part, therapy requires an emotional investment and openness to new ways of thinking and behaving, and therefore can have benefits and risks. Since therapy can involve talking about difficult subjects, such as unpleasant aspects of your life, or problems you are encountering, you may experience uncomfortable feelings like sadness, guilt, anger, frustration, loneliness, and helplessness. On the other hand, psychotherapy has also been shown to have many benefits. It can be rewarding and life-changing. Therapy often leads to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and substantial reductions in feelings of distress. Although there are no guarantees of what you will experience, we at Florida Family Options, Inc. are here to empower you and your family, and help you create solutions to life's challenges.
